The President made these remarks during a ceremony held to hand over appointment letters to graduates of the Batticaloa District at Weber Ground in Batticaloa.
Two hundred graduates and 40 diploma-holders were offered teaching appointments and Sirisena handed over appointment letters to 21 of them.
The President stated that the Government had decided to make certain changes in the system of education through new education policies and said that due to weaknesses in the country’s education system, graduates who were a resource to the country had the tendency to engage in rebellious action.
President Sirisena said that immediate steps would be taken to appoint graduate teachers in the Eastern Province as well as to vacant positions at other governmental and provincial institutions.
He said that he would take steps to establish two special presidential taskforces to make development tasks, which were delayed due to the war in the Northern and Eastern provinces, more efficient and he expected the cooperation of all ministers representing all political parties with this.
He added he would inquire into the progress of all the road development projects that had currently ceased.
President Sirisena also distributed equipment to three schools under the program for distributing equipment to labs in schools in the Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Governor Rohitha Bogollagama, state ministers A.L.M. Hisbullah and Sriyani Wijewickama, Deputy Minister Ameer Ali, Member of Parliament Ali Zahir Moulana, Eastern Provincial Council Chairman Chandradasa Galapaththi, Chief Secretary Sarath Abeygunawardena, other public representatives and government officers as well as the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and the heads of the security forces were present at the event.
Afterwards, President Sirisena, who visited the Sri Managarama Buddhist Temple in Batticaloa, asked after the wellbeing of Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thero.
Then Sirisena visited the Sri Mamangam Easwara Temple in Batticaloa and received blessings after participating in religious events.
The Mamangam Reservoir near the temple was inspected by the President and the Governor was advised to take immediate action to facilitate its reconstruction.
Finally, President Sirisena visited the residence of the Governor and planted a sapling within the premises.
